Gardening Life Hack: Freeze Your Unused Seeds!
I usually buy more seeds than I need for the season. I'd rather have too many than run out when I need to replant some rows of lettuce or sow the second round of carrots for the summer.
Around October of every year, I'll take all the remaining seeds and divide them into two groups. Opened seeds are vacuum-sealed, and the unopened seed packets go in a freezer-safe plastic baggie.
I've never had any issues with them failing to sprout. In fact, most of my 'second-summer' seeds perform just as well as the fresh ones.
One thing to remember about the opened seeds that are vacuum–sealed: make sure you let them thaw to room temperature before opening the bag! This will help prevent moisture from condensing on the seeds since the packet is opened.
