Growing Container Tomatoes in St. Paul: The Lazy Gardener's Fertilizing Technique

It’s another gorgeous afternoon on the East Side of St. Paul, and the grdening operation is making serious progress!

It has been a few weeks since these tomato plants were first transplanted into their pots, and while they received some initial nutrients at the start, they are due for a quick mid-season boost.

Right now, the plants are covered in healthy yellow blossoms, but they haven't started setting fruit just yet. Because of this stage of growth, I'm using standard Miracle-Gro Tomato Plant Food to give them a general nutrient lift.

Instead of mixing it directly into a watering can, I use a straightforward shortcut: applying the fertilizer right at the base of the soil. Over the next few days of regular watering, the roots will steadily absorb exactly what they need.

How are your container tomatoes looking this season? Happy gardening, everyone!
