I Bought a Blueberry Plant! The First New Addition of the Minnesota Gardening Season

I told y'all I'd be growing something new this year!

Although it won't be fruiting until late summer 2027 at the earliest, I bought this Chippewa Blueberry plant from the Bachmann's up off Highway 36 & White Bear Ave.

Built for the Cold: The Chippewa Blueberry Profile

Developed by the University of Minnesota, Chippewa blueberries are cold-hardy to Zone 3. This compact hybrid is built for container growth. It pairs the rugged durability of wild plants with the high-yield, sweet fruit of professional cultivars.

Patience will be required! This blueberry plant will take two to three years to mature and fruit. That window allows the root system to establish before shifting energy toward berry production.

I wish they'd be ready this year, but oh well. So it goes.

More to come!
