Minnesota Gardeners: How to Protect Your Container Veggies from the Overnight Chill
Don't let this week's daytime sun fool you!
Looking at the forecast for St. Paul, and we;re trapped in a pattern of overnight lows dipping below 50° degrees fahrenheit for the next few days. If you're planting your garden or veggies this weekend (like I did on Thursday), be sure to cover those tender plants overnight.
These tender transplants are basically toddlers—they can't handle the chill.
You'll want to monitor the forecast over the next two to three weeks, and get back out there anytime the lows get too cold to cover your fragile plants.
Use bed sheets, frost blankets, heavy-duty garbage bags, or even buckets; break the cold that has settled on those leaves.
A few minutes of prep tonight will help keep those plants alive all summer long. Happy gardening season y'all!
