Potato chitting on St. Paul's East Side!
The 2026 season is currently in a "wait and watch" mode. I began chitting russet potatoes in late February to jumpstart growth, but today's April 2nd snow on St. Paul’s East Side has pushed our planting goal back at least two weeks.
Currently, I’m running a window-light trial comparing USDA-certified potatoes (robust green sprouts) against organic Target potatoes (distinct purple sprouts). Once the ground thaws, these will move to grow bags in the back garden to track yield differences between the two sources.
More to come!
