Taco Tuesday on St. Paul's East Side: Time to Trim Some Cilantro!

It's Taco Tuesday, and y'all know what that means: we need some cilantro! Here's the secret to keeping your supply steady all season: try to avoid trimming from the top.

The trick to sustaining steady growth with cilantro is to harvest from the outside in. Identify the larger, more mature stems along the perimeter of the plant and trim them close to the base with clean garden shears or scissors.

By taking the older leaves, you leave that tender, new growth in the center untouched—effectively telling the plant to keep producing.

Now, I'm not perfect, so you'll notice I did trim some at the top, but only because this particular cilantro was on the verge of bolting. The goal, really, is to avoid it bolting, flowering, and producing coriander seeds.
